GRADE:  State Salary Scale for Teachers

 

FLSA:  Exempt

 

REPORTS TO:  Principal/Pre-Kindergarten Coordinator

 

SUPERVISES:  Teacher Assistant(s)

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  10 months

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a North Carolina Birth through Kindergarten (B-K) or Preschool Add-on Professional License, OR
  • Have earned a BA/BS degree in B-K, child development, early childhood education, or an early childhood education related field, and be eligible for a NC B-K Residency license.

NATURE OF WORK:  The Pre-K teacher will exhibit comprehensive knowledge of typical as well as atypical patterns of child development and age appropriate practices. The teacher will create and adapt environments that are safe, nurturing and cater to best practices in order to meet child care regulations guidelines. Additionally, Pre-K teachers will use authentic, ongoing assessments of children’s abilities to plan and implement age appropriate activities that are built upon each child’s unique strengths. Pre-K Teachers are expected to foster relationships with families in order to support children’s development. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.   1. Models, implements and assesses strategies related to learning, social, emotional and behavioral needs to enhance educational programming for all learners
  2. Follows district guidelines, child care regulations and best practices to ensure a safe and age appropriate environment that promotes learning
  3. Integrates research into the design of best practice
  4. Consults with Pre-K Coordinator, Pre-K Teachers and Site Administrators regarding best practices for classroom and building educational programs
  5. Submits required documents and forms by an established timeline
  6. Implements the Pre-K curriculum with fidelity
  7. Completes ongoing assessments and collect artifacts
  8. Implements a schedule that meets the required child care regulations
  9. Maintains records in accordance with established rules, regulations and ethical standards.
  10. Follows policies, procedures, standards and rules in accordance with federal and state laws, which includes, but is not limited to, developing and maintaining proper and adequate records and documentation
  11. Promotes effective interpersonal relations and engages in continuing professional growth activities
  12. Maintains student confidentiality
  13. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:  The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Pre-Kindergarten Teacher job classification within Martin County Schools.

 

Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of a up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift objects and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
  • Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including receiving instructions, assignments or directions from superiors.

  • Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently through a variety of technical and professional languages including psychometric, statistical and educational research terminology.
